Long Standing Issues
By long standing bear chief

This is a column of thought seeking reaction to what is usually just accepted without question.I do not know who to credit at this time, but I was raised with the idea that one ought question what passes for Authority. In short question authority.

It has occurred to this writer that the United States military is dominated by what appears to be right wing Christians who want their religion to dominate everyone’s way of thinking and belief.

I find this to be disturbing because surely a god that so loves the world would not be in the business of choosing sides among the things, including people and their many beliefs, the HE has created. Assuming of course that God made all things. Could it be that God did not create all things? (As an aside what if god is a woman, and the bible writers, all of them men, just got it wrong?)

In any case, why would a loving God waste his time creating things He later would turn out to hate? Is this a god with a mental problem?

One of the biggest inconsistencies of the right wing Christian mind, is that they are very evident by their number in the military, yet the Bible says, “Thou Shalt Not Kill!” Now figure that and please lets have some dialog about this.

By the way, I also wonder what might be the Left Wing Christian mind set? I haven’t bothered to look at it, if there is such a thing, since I follow the ways and beliefs of my Indigenous grandfathers.

Tribal Member is candidate for Congress, Blackfeet Council Unaware

In surfing the Internet one night it was discovered that Melinda Gopher, a Blackfeet Tribal member, is a candidate to replace Denny Rehberg as Montana’s long congressman in the United States House of Representative in the upcoming 2010 elections for national offices. .

A call to Paul McEvers, councilman for the Old Agency District on the reservation, on Friday December 18, 2009 revealed that the council is not aware of her candidacy. Mr. McEvers reported that he was not even aware that  Melinda Gopher is a tribal member.

The Piikani Sun tried to contact other Blackfeet councilman but they had all gone to Great Falls on "important" business and to enjoy some Christmas shopping, according to Tribal Office Staff, who wanted to remain anonymous.

In next issue of the Piikani Sun we hope to have a statement from Melinda Gopher and/or  from the Blackfeet Tribal Council reacting to her “unknown” candidacy.

Melinda Gopher is the wife of Mr. Brock Conway, who is also a Blackfeet Tribal member.

ARTICLE EXCERPT: BILLINGS – Gov.

Brian Schweitzer told members of a conservative livestock association Friday that he has pushed an agenda favorable to their industry but repeatedly run into opposition from the group's lobbyists.

Schweitzer was invited to address the Montana Stockgrowers Association annual convention by leaders of the organization eager to end years of disagreement with the Democratic governor.
